It's funny, I was just looking at these hunts last night online but have no idea where to even put in for... any ideas?

They change most of the units that nonresidents can put in for every year. The complete list is on the back of the nonres application.

I'm puttng in for all three again this year. 8 points going in for sheep and moose and 4 for goat.

Sheep in #124 mainly because of the sheep pop. and I know the area.
Moose in #102 best unit in the state
Goat in #313 again because of the population of goats

Good luck everyone!

ElkStuffer,

Thanks for the info, I am going to go back and look tonight at the regulations and do some more homework. How many points do you need to have a serious chance to getting drawn or is just pure dumb luck to get them?

Ranger, Goat has your best odds. I know a guy that lives in Kalispell that has drawn 3 goat tags so far. Last year he drew sheep with max points and I still don't think that he's drawn moose. He's convinced that he'll draw another goat tag before he draws another sheep or first moose. That being said...someone has to draw. 10% of the tags in each region go to nonres. It's the cheapest OIL tag that you can draw and the conservation tag (hunting license) is only $10 as apposed to NV and AZ $150+ nonrefundable licenses. Just start banking your points. someday it will pay off. Let me know if you have any other questions.

what does it cost to apply for sheep/goat in montana i have never looked to see. i got enough money going out on hunts this year and if i draw the multi tags theres another 180 each :yike: and i got to start saving to get my and my wife back to nz next year :yike: if it aint to bad i might start putting in. thanks guys/gals

About $800.

but you get back all but like 5 or 10 right so it does not cost that much unless you draw right? i went and looked i think it is like 755 if i read right.

+ $20 to participate in bonus point system
+ $10 conservation lisence
+ $15 fee (2-3% online processing fee - don't have to pay if you send in a m/o or cashier's check)
~$800

I think you get back $750 after it's all said and done.

I'ts kinda like WA - you can draw with 0 points and not ever get drawn with max points.

I am in for sheep and goat this year for the first time.  I am just hoping to build points for the future at this point so I'll be in for the worst draw odds.  Once I actually have vacation time, I will put infor units with the best odd outside of unlimited tag units.

Tell me about it.  Fronted NM this month, Fronted CO this month, Montana, Idaho and Nevada all coming due.   PRETTY BAD when you have to spread it out over multiple credit cards.  :yike:
