Awesome that they are doing free events for kids. It is soooo important to get kids involved in shooting. Hope everyone has a great time.

My son, Cody (13), attended the shoot yesterday. He had a blast! I guess 60 kids signed up and only 30 showed. I am sure that was due to the rain. I had to work, so my dad took Cody and they told me the rain held off until lunchtime. After that it was slight and a light raincoat endured.

They broke the kids up into three groups. Kids who had never shot before, kids who had, and kids who were really good. They had plenty of coaches and mentors on hand. They started the kids on the trap range and worked on the fundamentals with them. After that they went over to the skeet range and did some more work with the kids. The kids also received a free lunch and they had a full BBQ set up and going.

I was able to leave work early and I made it there right around 1:00 p.m. My dad came up to me and told me that I had just missed Cody shooting a double on the skeet range! I have to trumpet my horn here. It only took him three tries to break the double and he was shooting his trusty 870 youth pump (that is better than his old man!) As they were leaving the skeet range two the instructors came up and told him he was a natural. What a way to boost a kids confidence!

Cody ended the day shooting 5 Stand. Basically ,from my understanding, a sporting clays in a rotating, fixed stand positions. The 5 Stand area was covered and out of the wet. The kids had a great time there because the clays did different things. We got to see one young man who had never shot anything over a BB gun break a few targets coming in from #8. It was awesome! He was so excited that he was dancing around. We also got to watch a small black bear, that could care less about the shooting, feed over on hillside to the left of the 5 Stand area.

Talking with some of the instructors they have a free shoot for the kids once every month. He said that if the kids would like to get more involved they can join and start taking classes that are more in depth. For all you parents, grandparents or someone who knows some kids under 21 I highly reccommend bringing someone to this at least once. The Seattle Skeet and Trap facilities are very nice. They have multiple skeet ranges, trap ranges, 5 Stand, and Sporting Clays. The people there are great and they are all about the kids. Cody was able to shoot 200+/- rounds, learn a lot, gain confidence, and have fun. He was sore, but he was also one happy boy!

KIDS HAVE YOUR PARENTS SIGN YOU UP FOR THIS. YOU WILL HAVE LOTS OF FUN!
