Finally saw an antler drop. elk ATL's
« on: April 10, 2010, 08:15:05 PM »
Ol Backstraps and I went back into our hole today and we watched 100 head single file across this hill side, cows, bulls, calfs, and this 1 antlered bull who was not very happy, so we just took a seat and watched the action. He was bucking like a mule and chasing the other elk away, he would not let any other elk get within 10 yards of him. After about 5 minutes of this action he finally put his head to ground and pop the thing fell off and I about lost it. It was the coolest thing I think i ever saw. Finally after all the years of pickin up bone around we saw 1 fall off, pretty cool. The 1st antler is the 1 we wacthed drop off. We ended up with 5 more elk horns for day.

nice finds! I wasn't so lucky...last weekend I watched a 7x7 bull for about 30 min. just praying his headgear would drop...it didn't :'( I'm hoping he didn't go too far.
