Back when I first started hunting, so this was probably 15 years ago, my dad and I had just got out of the truck and were headed down to walk this trail that went along a creek bottom. We were about half way down there and caught movement running through the trees. If I hadn't known any better, I would have thought it was a horse running through the timber. All we could see was rack and the body as he hauled @$$! We later talked to some guys who said they had seen the biggest buck of their lives. They had a pair of rattling antlers in the back of their truck and they said the buck they saw was probably twice the size of them and the pair was probably 150" set. I just wish we could have got a better look at that whitetail but that is how they get to be that big!

300" whitetail

I know you didnt literally mean twice the size but I couldnt resist.  :chuckle:

Haha I guess I set myself up for that. All I know is he was huge and I can still picture him running through the woods like it was yesterday. What was crazy was the crap he was running through is cat hair thick and he was running at a good clip. Big bucks never cease to amaze me!

That memory will never leave you. I have a bear stuck in my head that will never leave me either. Good thing I didnt kill him I am almost convinced it was a grizz.  :chuckle: It gets bigger every time I tell the story. I have a deer like that too. Ahhh nothing like the stories of the ones that got away. We shoudl start a new thread on teh one that got away.

Isn't that what this is...? :chuckle:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Well ive been pretty lucky to get onto a few nice deer, but ive bumped into or had the chance to miss a few monsters...a few years ago i missed the chance to shoot a deer that i had eatting out of my camera that later that year got shot during a special late tag...measured 186 inches :'( ...its all good though....and ive easilly seen a few that would measure closer to the 200-210 inch area...some non-typical, some not...

one year when i hunted in a field with my little brother(i had already shot my deer for the year), we had 2 monster non-typical bucks come out...brothers first year hunting(emptied his rifle shacking like a twig and didnt even come close...) It was just about the hardest thing no helping him take down one of those bucks..but i didnt...deer easilly had over 14-15 points on one side alone...and three eye guards on both side that where atleast 8-10 inches long that kind of spiralled up on eachother....i call them the brothers...wasnt the first time i had seen them....we have history.....had a few chances actually to shoot them...but for some sentimental reason i cant pull the trigger every time i see the twins...ive known them since they where fawns...so i guess in a wierd way it would be like shooting a friend. Someday ill get the nerve to do it, but untill then im happy with what ive been getting instead.

Then there was another time when my papa tried putting a sneak on a monster 180-190 class typical 6x6 whitetail....the mass on him was rediculous and his horns went straight out. He was rutting like crazy...i can remember him running over the hill after he got sppoked and his muscles were shaking like crazy with every step of his body..Dad ended up shooting the smaller buck that was running with the pig...lol...oh well...

Last year i missed my shot at a nice 180 non-typical...me and my brother were sitting in the field when this monster non-typical...probably 8-9 points on each side came running out at a million miles an hour..Thing was gorgeous...got a rest started grunting...then went to whistling...took a shot as he crested the hill to a slow walk, just about to slow down and stop, but he didnt... his 1-2 seconds that he slowed downmoving wasnt enough for me to be able to get a good enough post, my rifle slipped and i totally missed....when i looked up to see why he was running so fast a few guys had come out off the road in the opposite direction and scared him up and out...Buck wasnt stopping for nothing(well except for the next county) ....gorgeous deer...

But just a few hogs ive seen....
