Cheap or Name Brand SD Card?
« on: April 13, 2010, 09:44:48 PM »
I have only tested this on my Moutrie D40 (my Bushnell 5.0 stays in the woods), but it seems that the el cheapo SD cards just don't work as well.  By that I mean, they don't record as many pics and even the pics with movement have more blur.  I've tested this with the cheap 1Gb card that came with the cam and the other SD cards that I've purchased that say they are Ultra speed or Fast.  It seems to be true in my tests.  Has anyone else experienced this with this trail cam or other cams?

I buy whatever 1GB, 2GB or 4GB cards are on sale and I haven't had a problem yet. I know cheap batteries make a big difference especially in my Moultrie cameras.

I found the cheaper ones do not work well either. They sometimes don't record pic's or even if they say there are 30 pic's on the card they will only show you half  :bash: . get the middle of the line ones, I haven't had any problems with them so far.
Also, on the Moultree cam's always remember to shut off the cam before you pull your card or after a while the cards can lock up on you and there garbage. I found that out the hard way  :bash: ......  :chuckle:

Thanks, Titan-1.  I've asked others with trail cams, but they had to buy the cards, so they got cards that worked well.  I'm throwing out the cheapo card that came with my D40.

I have only removed the card once without turning off the unit and it was on my Bushnell 5.0.  Luckily, I only lost the first 2 photos.  I had it set to take 3 photos at a time and the first photo I could retrieve was of a cougar as he left the field of view (got his back and tail).

Grundy 53, you should be fine.  I bought one of those cards, too, and it works fine.

Thanks everyone for posting.

I've been using some off brand cards I bought on EBay for like $5 each and they're still great after about 2 years of almost constant use. . .  :dunno:

I buy the Sandisk 2GB cards from www.surpluscomputers.com and find the prices and performance to be great.  :twocents:

I've found, so far, the SanDisk cards work best. Use the 2GB as stated above.
