More from the Brooks.
« on: April 15, 2010, 03:48:17 PM »
My grubby butt. Trying to take a self portrait with a Sheep skull  and a one time use camera. My Grandpas 35mm Olympus broke two days before going up :bash:

Can you say Fly In camp?  Springcreek 2002.

Just getting there, taking unpaid time off, hiring a Bush Pilot was the most I could afford. My Company gives cash in lieu of paid time off on your anniversary. So every October 16th I get a check for 3 weeks pay. Not a bad time to get it :hunter:

I'd love to do that with a camera in hand.  Wouldn't need to be a season.

I will be up there next summer doing a DIY float/hike/picture taking trip on either the Kongakut, or Colville river. The Brooks is one of the best places to see if a person likes true wilderness. Thanks for posting the pics Mike looks like you had a blast!!

Sky,

What are you going to use to float with?

After having several Im's with you Mike I am thinking on going with Yukon Air and renting the raft from him if I go the float trip way. I used Wright Air before but they are out of Fairbanks and Yukon air is out of Fort Yukon. I am more inclined to believe they know the area a little better especially when it comes down to those river bar landings. I would also like to do some fishing and would tap on their knowledge there.

Yukon Air is Kirk Sweetsir and his wife. Interesting guy. Grew up in Ruby Upstrean or Down(?) of Fairbanks Got his Masters in Biology, went to England as a Rhodes Schloar (Meet Jill) Led Research Expiditions in Greenland. He bought the name sometime in the 90's but he has been flying the Brooks for 20 years. I can't recomend him highly enough.  I'd bet a steak diner most floks up there would say the same.

He has facilites and a second home in Ft. Yukon but tries to meet/drop off in Arctic Village. It'll cost more to get to AV but the savings from him should more than offset that.
