Going to go searching this weekend
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:08:15 PM »
My kids are all fired up to go look for drops...thinking of heading out by staircase and trying to find so elk leftovers.  I know the west side is thick but it is close so we are going to give it a shot...Any ever have any luck out that way?

You might want to wait a bit on the westside, I was in a St Helens herd last Sunday, and they were all still packing. (Nice ones too!  :'(  )

Yep, you will want to wait a couple of months for the wetside elk.

Im headed out tomorrow to a spot...not sure what I will find on the wetside...but I just gotta get out...who knows...maybe a deer or two. The one spot I go to, I always see game of some sort...so, should be fun.

Will post if I find anything cool. Good luck this weekend.

Any luck yet Huntinhick or Saylean?  A buddy of mine and I are taking our boys over to the eastside tomorrow for our first time shed hunting.  Mostly just need to get out of the house and walk around.  We'll keep an eye out for any yotes too and may try to scout a little for turkeys, but hoping for a chance at finding a shed or two if we're lucky.  Gonna try Ellensburg/Selah/Yakima area...

Took my 3 boys out with a buddy and his son yesterday for our first time actively shed hunting.  It was a great excuse to get out of the house on a gorgeous day and tromp around outdoors.  We headed up to Wenas area, but still quite a bit of snow up there.  We hiked up throught the snow to a ridgeline for good measure anyway and let the boys get some target practice in.

We then found some open hills sides a little further north of there where we could actually see the ground and look for sheds, but came up with nothing.  Great time overall for the boys to hike around with their packs on and carrying their .22 rifles, practicing GPS & firestarting skills and excercising the legs and lungs.   It did kill me to drive along Canyon Road from Ellensburg, along the Yakima River, without being able to stop and wet a line!!  Beautiful day for it.  A couple more weeks and I'll be back over to do just that, without the boys.

I was out fishing the Upper Salmon (near Queets) and the Raft this last weekend. Saw the herd up on the salmon and the guys on the lower Raft. All still packin but when they drop Ill be there.  :)
The Raft herd have been hangin within a couple miles of the coast.
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me to.

We did not make it far from the house, the wife was down sick.  We searched the woods where we live.  I hve seen a nice 4x4 blacktail around.  we did not find anything but it is still early.  We will be headed up to the mountians as soon to try up there.

I walked 5 miles the other day along a well used elk trail and came up with nothing.  I was about 7 miles south of Orting.
