Horns Are Starting To Grow
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:29:24 PM »
I spent the weekend over camping in the Methow. The deer herd looks good and the horns are growing. I even managed to find a decent 4pt shed.

one in my yard tonight with about an 1.5"  :chuckle: His Tarsals gave him away before his antlers.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Its funny you mention that. At first all we could see was his body,he had his head stuck in a bush eating. I called him a buck before we ever saw his antlers. His tarsals and body shape gave him away.

I had four whitetails come into my decoys last weekend.  This is only one who was curious enough to step up and check things out...pretty cool.

The big elk are up working on their 3rd's already!   Some a little above that.   The biggest bucks I have seen only have a couple inches of fuzz so far but they sure are growing fast!

Had a bull in the pasture 2 days ago working on his 3rd point.  On his right side the antler is bent straight out to the side.  I'll have to watch him, if he is the big 5 from last year he will be a dandy this year and have one hell of a spread!  :chuckle:

Cool beans guys... 8)  I was thinking the same thing when I spotted a herd of muleys this evening and flipped a U'ey in the highway to go back and look with the binos.  No dice though, all does and fawns in that bunch.

In the last week I have seen some whitetail bucks with 6-8 inches and some with only nubs, funny how some start earlier, they probably aslo drop earlier.
