Port Blakely Land Access
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:50:32 PM »
Does anyone know if Port Blakely is going to allow hunting access this fall in the Winston Creek area?  I have heard that all of the gates are going to be locked up and they may lease the land for hunting rights.

I have heard that same rumor from several differant people in the last couple of weeks, not sure if it is true but generally where there is smoke there is fire.  I know Rayonier is leasing ground to hunters on their ownership out in the Grays Harbor area(there have been several threads on this over the last year).  I have also heard that they are looking too add their ownership in Lewis county into this program.  Of which a fair amount of it is in the Winston area.

If both scenarios were to occurr it would really change things up in the Winston unit.

yea it would, make it a totally different hunting opportunity less hunters and can you imagine the quality of elk being pulled out of there in say 2-3 years.

This is the new access policy.  Not sure what color the signs will be in the Winston.

I was just up there last Saturday, off the 3000 line, only one new gate at the 3000/541.  I think there is still too much state land up there to lock it up yet.

Can you tell me how many guys you see on bikes during the week during modern? I have heard it called "the pumpkin patch" We hunt archery on the wey co side but never been down that way during modern. My dad pulled the Multi season elk tag and was wondering if it is even worth it.

I know of two new gates off of the 100 line.  One on on the 120 and one on (I believe) the 200 line.  If these gates were to be locked up, this would limit access to several thousand acres on the north fork of Winston Creek/Green Mountain and access towards the 550 line.

The 2nd to last page of the 2010 game regs has a notice from Port Blakely. Unauthorized vehicle access is now prohibited on Port Blakely Tree Farm Land.
