Looking for feedback-guidance
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:48:30 PM »
I'm going nuts trying to plan next falls Deer trip. It will be during Modern Firearm. So many choices, places to go. I'm limited as to how much time off I can afford to take. Instead of paid time off for vacation we get a Check every year on the date of hire. Luckily mine comes in mid October. Anyway I'm thinking real hard about where to go. I really prefer the East side. Did one trip into GMU113 but this year I'd like to get into thinner timber and am looking at places like GMU's 218, 203, 224. Mostly because I haven't been there and want to see new parts of the State as well as hunt.

If you were limited to one trip would you lean towards the General Season with more time. Or Late Season and the Rut?  I'm pretty uncomfortable asking too much about where to go, don't want anyone thinking I'm after their favorite areas, but I'd like some ideas on where to go to get up into thinner timber, more open country. I'm also thinking about the Table Mt. area a favorite..

I guess if it was me I would check out a few these area now and enjoy some weekend camping trips and based on what I found plan to hunt the general opener. How much time do you have?

My Vacation check is now 3 weeks pay and if I'm smart between now and October and get well ahead on Car payments, Rent... (a big IF lol) I can probably take 10-14 days. I wound up having to do so much OT last year, working 6-7 days a week for months I didn't get squat for scouting time. I'm afraid of a repeat this summer.  :dunno:  but I do hope to do a lot more looking around this year.

Overtime is good for the paycheck but makes it hard for scouting and having fun. :) 3 weeks is a good amount of time for hunting if you choose to use it all for deer.  Maybe you good try the general season and look for an area to hunt late. Personally I would focus my time during the general since you do not have a lot of time to scout, etc. Once you learn an area you can branch out.
