Bear Hunting in The Tucannon
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:47:57 AM »
I had just one day last week to hunt the Tucannon on my way home from Pullman. The snow level was at 4300' feet so it stopped us from getting where we wanted to go but we still got some nice hunting in.  The snow at 4300' was the old icy stuff from winter.

We saw an older set of bear tracks in the snow, but not a lot of fresh sign yet.  There were no less than 40 RVs in the Tucannon river valley and several short stay tent camps. Most of them were turkey hunters, and very few were having any luck.  I was suprised to see so many people but we enjoyed visiting with several of them and received a few bear hot spot tips from turkey hunters that had no interest in bear hunting.

I took a hike through the old forest fire and had to pick no less than 40 ticks out of my cloths when I returned to the truck. They were falling out of the burnt out trees like rain.

It was an awesome day spent in some really nice country, and we are looking forward to returning in a couple of weeks.

I will post a few scenery pics when I get a chance.

I suspected that this year would be mighty bad for ticks but 40? Egads. Keep after them bears. The hunting will only get better as teh spring season progresses.
