ok,  well over the weekend i found a little turkey heaven place on private property,  got permission from the landowners to kill a couple of turkeys.  i kinda got the calling down, going to pattern the shotty this week,  and want to go out this weekend to get some turkey,  i walked around the property this past weekend (didn't have a turkey tag) and i was able to get within 10-115 yards of several toms.  so i might not even need to do any calling (the birds here aren't too afraid of people)   well....  i never hunted turkeys,  i just want a couple wild turkeys to eat.  i have two questions though...  what shells should i use? 2.75" or 3"  and what shot?  i have lots of 4 shot,  but will i be better off using 6 or 5?    and my other question might be stupid,  but do shot at the turkeys head or shest? ( i'm guesing head,  since i wouldn't want a buch of shot in the meat)    so any help would be apreciated.

always shoot for the base of the middle of the neck that way if you are high you are o.k. and low you are o.k. as well. as far as size you want to go with at least a 3" shell i don't know if the shells you have are steel but you want lead or lead like pellets will kill them much better i like number 6 shot more pellets i shoot 3.5" 6 shot feds.

you want a full or better choke extra full is better the tighter the group the better you don't want to big of a patten you want the pellets in a small circle and most of the time most guns should not be shot past 40 yards unless you have a really killer pattern because they are tuff birds

Pattern your gun with a couple different loads to determine what hits best.  If all you have is 2 3/4's thats fine.  Just pattern them to see what your effective range would be.   On the choke issue, I would shoot a full at the minimum but extra full or turkey chokes can help your pattern density to a longer range.  Good Luck!! Hope you get a couple and show us some pictures!!

Use 4, 5, or 6 shot whatever patterns best .... 4's have better knockdown power, 6's more bb's, & 5's are a good compromise to both worlds. Good luck ..

Beginner, pattern your gun with what the shells you have and see what works best.  Start at 25 yards and work you way out to 40.  Chokes, make sure you use at least a extra full, it will condense your pattern the best.  If you need more info shoot me a PM and I will give you my number.
