question, can I put my kids in for Goat, Sheep, and Moose?

they will not be hunting for a long time nor do they have hunters safety.

I'd think you could start em in the points race with ghost points as long as they have a wild ID.

I'm not positive, but I don't think you would be allowed to purchase or submit special permit applications for them without them having a hunter education certificate number. I have had the same question myself, as I have thought it would be nice to begin building up points for my 2 and 4 year old daughters.

I believe you have to purchase a license in order to apply for special hunts.  You'd need hunters ed to buy the license.

Only reason I doubt myself is I am not sure if you need a license to apply for OIL, since I don't think NR guys have too.  Bobcat or Bob33 would probably know better.

Well you don't need a license to apply for moose, sheep, or goat. That's why those permits are so popular with the non-residents.

Just think of all the money the WDFW could make! I'm sure they wouldn't mind if people want to put their babies in for moose and sheep tags. 
But seriously, I don't know if you could do it. I think that hunter's ed number has to be on record with the WDFW in order to purchase anything that's hunting related.

You do need to be eligible to purchase a hunting license.  If you don't have a hunter education number in the system (and you were born after 1/1/1972), you can't purchase a hunting license and thus you can't apply for an OIL tag.

you don't need a hunting license to apply and I can't find anything that says that you must be eligible to do so. It says if you are drawn then you must buy your stuff by a certain deadline but they would be applying for a ghost point with no chance of being drawn.

I know that they'll need a wild ID # but you can get that with a fishing license.

All you can do is try. I thought about trying but my kids don't have fishing licenses. I would try it from your computer at home instead of at a store.

I was thinking you need a hunter's safety in order to get a WILD ID #, but you are right a fishing license will get you the WILD ID #.  I would try online, as the people at the store aren't likely to give you the correct answers on something as challenging as this.  Interesting Idea.

I can say for certain that (a) it worked several years ago, and (b) it has not worked in recent years.  I know because I bought a point for a very young son several years ago until they changed the system such that anyone applying must be eligible to hunt.

I'm just surprised it's not something the WDFW would actually promote, in order to sell more applications.

Your kids don't need fishing licenses but they do need catch record cards. Isn't the wild id on those as well?  I might have to try as well.

As was stated, you can get a WILD ID # for anybody who wants a salmon/steelhead/sturgeon/halibut or crab catch card. The fish CC is free except for the dealer fee, approx $2.  I first got one for my kids when they started fishing for pink salmon alone around the age of 6. But you could feasibly start around 3 or 4. You see little fisherpeople tossing crab rings on the local docks.

Kids get a Wild ID # as soon as you put them in the system.  They get entered into the system when they get a catch record card for fishing. 

As of the last couple of years you have not been able to put in for points for any species without a hunter education number.  That is not to say there is not a workaround on that one as well, but I'll let all of you figure that one out yourself.

Remember a few years back when WDFW implemented the new computers?  We went from the yellow sticker licenses to the crappy plasticy paper that fades in 10 days.  When they first implemented the system, there were so many glitches that you could purchase points for anyone, even if they didn't have a hunt education number.  Also, the first year they had the new computers, you could purchase your points for elk and deer before you picked up the tag.  As long as you had paid for the tag, you could buy the application.  Well, before you pick up the tag, you haven't chosen the weapon type or eastern or western.  There was about 2 weeks where people were applying for any hunt they want because the system couldn't recognize which tag you had (because you hadn't chosen yet).  That was really nice.  Now you need a multiseason permit to do that...

Both of my girls have had wild ID numbers since they were 4 or 5 because of catch records for crab and salmon.
