2010 Hancock Elk permit
« on: April 27, 2010, 04:23:29 PM »
So, I am one of the lucky six who were drawn for the Hancock Elk tag this year.  I have seen some really nice bulls in there and was wondering if anyone has any info on where they would hunt.  I know there is some real monsters in there and am willing to hear any and all suggestions on where to hunt.  I am trying to get all the info I can about where people see elk in there because this truly is a hunt of a lifetime and the more info the better.  My toughest job with this tag is I am a meat hunter and my buddies keep telling me that I need to hold out and wait for a monster.  I like to have meat in the freezer, so there is my dilemma. I usually hunt the bridge gate and know that area much better than the Kapowsin gate, but if you know of any areas in the Kapowsin gate that would be worth my time to check out, lets hear it.  Thanks for your info.

I 2nd that benhuntin, But what the hell deadyote you have an awsome hunt coming your way and the best part is you have all spring and summer to find the bull of your dreams! Even as a meat hunter you should not have any problems finding a nice bull and filling the freezer!  Good luck and post the pics when you nail one!

Nah, they drew early last year too Rasbo. No need to wait once they've sold out the permits.

Deadyote, I got my permit for in there the first time this year, if I find any good areas will pass it on to you.

Like a lot said you will get some flack for coming in here with this being your first post. But lets see there are only a 1000 permits a year allowed in there, there is no point system to build up and get drawn for. So I don't think it is hurting anything, at least one of the people of hunting washington got drawn. With that all being said, the crappy part would be if you are a one hit wonder. Meaning you come in here for some info on a specific hunt, someone helps you out and you never come back.

So look around, enjoy, pull up a chair and stay longer than your hunt. Congrats on that draw also.

Right on man! I'll be working up there this summer.  Lots of whoppers if you know where to look.  Only problem should be deciding whether to shoot the long tined 6 or the 7.

And you're right.  It will be the hunt of a lifetime.  There's no other place I'd rather hunt elk in this state.
