Thanks for the post, Wolfbait.

My friend sent me a similar article several months ago, and I quickly researched it. While there does appear to be a movement outside the United States for gun control, the likelihood isn't as great as some would have you believe. For this to truly come into being:

   1. An international treaty would have to be drafted for signatures.
   2. A U.S. President would have to formally sign the treaty.
   3. The Senate would have to approve the treaty by two-thirds.

But then there's the issue that international treaties cannot override privileges specifically provided to American citizens by the U.S. Constitution. So, even if the treaty were passed, we'd have to rewrite the second amendment before the treaty would work.

Finally, there's the idea that the U.N. international gun treaty specifically allows each nation to govern its own firearm regulations within the state's borders. IE, you could own the gun--you just can't take it to Canada to sell it. The protection seems to be more about stopping international arms trades rather than to be about the United Nations' attempt to implement gun control in the United States.

Of course, I could be wrong (always gotta throw that out, right?), but I really don't see this as a threat.

Some good reading on the U.N. gun treaty: http://www.factcheck.org/2009/12/international-gun-ban-treaty/

Please note that I wrote "privileges" above in the paragraph addressing international treaties and the U.S. Constitution--it should read "rights."

If you don't see this as a threat, thern I have some beach front property I will sell you.  It is gun control period.  We have protection.  It is called the second ammendment.  That is all we need.
