Best Bang for the BUck?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Previously, I posted a question on a number of sites regarding what folks thought was the “Best Bang For The Buck” in a bolt action rifle. I received a broad range of opinions but in the end there was a clear consensus (Savage).

Today I ask the question: What do you believe is the Best Bang for the Buck in a recurve and/or long bow?

In my book, "Best Bang for the Buck" implies a limited budget.
I will sacrifice dollars for quality but not the other way around.
Pretend you have only the money for ONE bow, then answer.

i would say for a wood trad bow i would go with browning and for a modern trad bow hoyt. because i have both and both have been great browning fury 1 60lbs and a 55lbs hoyt dorado both fantastic shooters you can find a hoyt dorado on ebay or gamemaster for around 300-350 on ebay from time to time the brownings are a bit harder to find in great shape

Well then... that's easy... by a stave and make the bow you want.  That's what I did.

Osage Orange, backed with Bamboo with some Bocote in the riser... 68" American Flatbow,   65# @28" with a hand twisted Flemming Twist which I learned how to do.











First grouping shot out of my bow... built it at this time last year.  So there ya go... best bang for the buck.

Thanks... had some excellent coaching along the way.  It's finished with Tru-Oil (hand rubbed).  I took it to The Nock Point indoor range, and after warming it up for about half an hour... I chrono'd it shooting GoldTip 5575 (full length) shafts with 3 5" LW feathers and 125gr. field points... it shot 'em at 179fps.  Should be even faster if shot "cold".

It performed well on the walk-n-shoot course at Kenmore Range too.  Best bang for my buck.

That is very nice rat. That would definately be the best bang for your buck. Just don't add in your hours of labor

A little over 60hrs. of hand work.  The only power tools use was the bandsaw for rough cutting the stave, an air die grinder to rough out the contours of the riser and some minor belt sanding before hand tuning the riser contours.  Everything else was hand work and a LOT of measuring/tillering.
