"New" mouse gun
« on: May 02, 2010, 11:50:26 AM »
First off, I'm not a 10/22 fan.  They aren't particularly accurate, and don't always feed all that well.  But I still bought one about 3 years ago and just never liked it.  So I bought an ER Shaw .17HM2 conversion barrel and a Hogue stock, and I think it's my favorite rifle right now!

It is a pretty sweet shooter!  I've got about 50 rounds through it now with no hiccups, and it's been pretty accurate.  I put the barrel on 4 days ago, and I've been taking it to work as my "truck gun".  I've already killed more animals with it than all of my guns COMBINED.  It is deadly out to 100 on rock chucks!  I've got it topped with an OLD 4x Weaver, and I think I'm actually pretty happy with that.

Here's a pic of the mag:

I also got a hi-cap mag for it, but it DOES NOT WORK.  It will only feed in the rotary-style mags, otherwise the bullets just take a nose dive when you try to push them forward in the mag.

The barrel came with a special weighted charging handle.  I didn't really like the idea of that, but it actually makes it really easy to manipulate.  I also love the stock, but like many Hogue stocks, it isn't really free-floated.

Well just thought i would let you guys know, if your 10/22 isn't getting any play, I highly recommend this mod!

I'm planning on taking it to the range today to try different ammo to see what it likes, will update.

Congrats... nice/clean little set-up there.

Is that hi-cap mag specifically for the .17?  Or... is it a .22 mag?  Just wondering whether a different follower might need to be used with it?

Thanks!

It's for a .22.  It's the butler creek 25 rounder.  I'm not sure if even a follower would fix it.  Due to the shape of the cartridge, after about 4-5 rounds loaded, they start to turn down.  It might work if the magazine had more curve to it, but jeez they already look stupid enough!

If that buttler creek has a plastic lip, thats you're problem. Mine is 22lr but it still won't feed with plastic lipped mags.
