sorry to hear the news. Man, he looks exactly like my dog I had growing up. White faced, white chest and toes. God speed.. Hap

16 years is a long time for any dog, certainly a dog with any mass. The fact that you realize the time has come adds to your credibility as a pet owner. No, it is not easy, and I feel for you and your situation. Sounds as though you shared some of the best times of your life, and you know the best times of his life
, Take that with you as you let him move on to the place where he will not hurt anymore and he has the energy to do what he loves.

Well it's done I held him in my arms as he took his last breath. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It was time he was ready. We found a great place that over looks one of our hunting spots and buried him there. Now he can be part of our hunts forever. Bye Jake, I love you!

I'm sorry man, I'm sure that was a very difficult thing to do. I'll be in the same position before too long.
Not that it will make it any easier, just try to remember that you did what was best for your friend.

Cory, been there....
We miss ours every day....been gone two years. After we put ours down, we made a little diary on our computer desktop where family members could write in it daily and share how we were each feeling... Really love to go back and read the diary. Hang in there.

I have avoided this thread. I put Aurora down Dec 19 2009. Saddest day ever, still feel her with me on walks.
Hope you get another pup soon. I know when I kick the bucket I'll leave a dog behind for my children or grand kids to care for. I love my dogs and from the sounds of it so do you.
God Bless dogs and their owners
