i don't know what's worse, the fact that they can't get a good estimate, or the fact that people believe their estimate year after year!

if you want a good grasp of what a run is going to be, take the numbers and cut it in half!
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Well, I was there once in March, twice in April and once in May. No springers for me, but saw quite a few caught. I fished the Barrier Dam area. I think that there are way more salmon than last year... However, in 2006, I used to catch them left and right in April and May. On spoons! This year might be just as good regarding their numbers (I don't believe the official predictions), or even better. Locals catch their share every day, I saw that.
I was there last Sunday, saw springers jumping particulary in the boat launch area and below. Water was low, my eggs were not the first-class... So I went and nailed a chrome steelhead on spoon.
Going on weekend? Good luck - it is crowded.

I think the fish are in the Cow but looking at the flows tells me the bite won't happen. Flows over 4.5k Produce a better bite. IMO
If yer going to the Cow you better just plan on trying for steelies. They will bite great at these flows. :twocents:

The Lewis has been really slow also.

I'm going out on the Big water this sunday for some lings.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but are the steelies in the cow now late winter/spring fish or part of the summer run? or do they all kinda run together?

Yes, there may still be a mix in Cow now. That will change shortly. The "B" run on that river is late and usually really large.
