Saw our first Tucannon Bear

We hunted most of the day in the snow, and it finally let off late this afternooon. Spotted this bear digging roots from an open ridge at just under 2 miles. It is a 4 hour hike to get to him so it was too late in the day. Only half a day to hunt tomorrow so he will have to wait for our next trip.

I also saw where another bear had been digging roots from a bald ridge. The plant had small yellow flowers with tiny pedals. Does anybody know the name? The bears sure seem to like it.

I am glad you are starting to see bears and some sign. Looks like you are in the right area. Keep after them. I have seen that plant before but do not know what it is called. Today for the first time this spring I saw some bear dung as well as areas where one had been digging. I saw a pretty big one last evening but like your situation it was too far away. I went back in there today but he did not show himself. Hoping next weekend I might get a crack at him.

Looks like it is in the parsley family.  Long distance runners chew it to prevent side aches.  Get after it   I Know I should be out.  Put over 5 miles on my boots Saturday, and no sign.

Both. We hiked up 1900' elevation one day, down 1000' another.

Here is one of our hikes where we came up from the valley along one ridge, and back down along another ridge.
