Went out turkey hunting this last weekend, and had a blast. We had a large piece of private property all to ourselves and saw tons of turkey, but just couldnt connect. We would wake up and go to bed hearing the gobbles of turkeys throughout the property..it was very cool (and yes it was JUST US on here, not other hunters)
Of course, any chance I get I go call coyotes/predators. We set up at dusk on the first day on a nice open field surrounded by trees. Im up against a rock surrounded by brush, my bros are under two trees not far to my right. (see pic below)
I give my new call from RRCalls (site sponsor) its first sqeals and I have my brother doing howls. We both end up singing howls back and forth and right at final light (about 25 mins in) I spot a yote skirting the trees....but holding up...I had the mojo critter about 60 yards out infront.
I was able to connect my .223 55 grain hornady. He was sitting down facing me on the tree line. It smacked him in the chest, dropped like a ton of bricks...it was ranged at about 298 yards. He was a ragged looking male.
The next day after some more turkey hunting, we decided to go call another area about 11 am. We are on a brushy ridge looking down into a wooded valley. I gave my bro in law the extra call that RR sent when I purchased this call, as he didnt have a predator call and is kind of new to the sport. Again, my bro ( my bro was also using a Rainshadow custom howler I bought him for his bday last year, another site sponsor by the way) and I howled and my bro in law was let loose on the 2nd RR call...
About 40 minutes into it, we get busted from below with the warning bark howl, close by, just in the brush....we spent the next 40 minutes or so trying to get the coyote to come out a bit (as we were scattered along the ridge about 60 yards apart), so we could get a shot...but no luck. As we left, he was still barking at us.

It was a good first call set for my bro in law and I think he's hooked.
The next morning I went to my turkey blind and sure enough, I am there about 20 minutes...and here comes another yote from across the road, bordering the field I am watching...
I mouse sqeek to him and he finally picks up the noise...I am sitting in a log jam. He moves so there is a log blocking his view and I position cause I think he will come to my right...so he goes to my left...

I am turned ackwardly for a left side shot...but he keeps closing in.
He stops at about 12 yards and looks at me throught he brush...I sqeek a little more and he keeps coming...now only about 12-18 ft away, I swing hard and fast, but he was faster (and I was already twisted ackwardly) and bolted to my left into the brush. I was able to get a shot off, but it was a clean miss...dont think he will come into any mouse sqeeks for a bit...

Overall, I saw 40+ turkeys (they did teach me a thing or two), called in three yotes that we know of (plus another pack that went nuts howling, but got to dark for them to come in) and tons of deer. A great time with family.
