Port Angeles Halibut Derby
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:53:09 PM »
I know how to fish and have my own gear. The only problem is I don't have a boat. :bash: I caught a 42 lb'er 27th place last year, $160.00 fish. I'm looking for someone with an open seat for the Derby this year. I will help with gas and will clean all the fish.

I'm trying really hard to get ready for the derby myself, I hear they have really been catching the fish lately and I'm not ready  :( I should be ready by then though but don't know yet if I'll have an open seat, One thing you can be sure of is that you won't have to clean any fish if you went with me !!!  :bash:

Not really we did really good in 05 with 3rd (89lb) and like 26th (53lb) or something which was nice to finally go fishing for free for once LOL !!!

Hope the weather is good, I'm hoping to get down to the west end and I hate crossing that Elwah bar when its nasty !!!

I marked the spot with my GPS last year, it's about 3 miles out. We caught a 48 lb'er the next weekend after the derby there last year. :dunno:

I have a boat and willing to travel to you, when is the derby? Maybe a joint venture?

Isn't that memorial day weekend? Man I would love to fish in the derby. But I'm with you Ben, no boat. Hmmm. Just thought of something. The brother and sister in law are getting stationed in Guam. They are going to be storing there boat in P.A. for us to use at the cabin. Since they will be bringing the boat up that weekend maybe I can talk them in to fishing the derby. When do you have to buy your ticket's by?
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

Jimmy,
I see guys out here with 15' boats all the time. I would prefer at least an 18' boat and pay attention to the wind.

I've seen guys out there in 12ft Lunds! Millpond day and I still thought they were stupid! I'd say 17 ft with 14" of freeboard in about minimum... and watch the weather extremely carefully.

I've spent lots of time out there in 50 ft steel commercial boats, and when it blew up I wished I was someplace else! (It can come up in a matter of 30 minutes too.)
