Boat Dealer Recommendations
« on: May 10, 2010, 08:38:37 PM »
My fishin buddy is lookin to buy a jet sled and I was hoping to give him some ideas of places to shop. He's been scouring CL and Boat Trader but he's thinking of buying new also. I guess he went up to three rivers marine in woodinville and walked around for 30-45 min and not one person came up and talked to him. He was pissed and thinks it's because he doesn't look like the money type. Thing is he's ready to buy and those morons probably just lost the sale. So any recommendations would be helpful. His current boat I posted in the classifieds here if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance.

Go direct with Wooldridge right up past Boeing Field, give them a call and go straight to their factory and take a tour.  You get to see the boats being made and talk to the folks that "basically" invented the jet...  Or go to Oregon, lots of dealers and test rides right their along the Columbia.  I know of Siglers and Clemons...  What type/size boat is looking for?

He's lookin for 18-20 foot semi-v I think. He wants to be able to run the rivers but also fish the salt both here and in Canada. I don't think he's opposed to driving a little ways, maybe even to oregon to look. Eastern WA maybe too. I know there are a couple places up around Anacortes and that area too. Went to the place in mount vernon and they are kind of a joke. Not much selection.

There's a ton of aluminum boat builders and dealers down in Clarkston, WA on the Snake too if you want to take a 6 hour drive. You can go right to the ThunderJet factory.

If your going to run the salt too a 14 deg. hull is a good choice. I wouldn't go less than 20' to run the Canadian salt in a jet. The others mentioned, as well as: Custom Weld, NW Jet, Precision Weld, Hell's Canyon Marine, Idaho Boat Co. and Alumaweld are good bets.

Agree above, if your going to run salt get the sturdier boat that can handle the pounding and beating.  Plus he'll need to ensure the jet is set up right, since he is looking for a semi vee with jet.   Just make sure he knows what entails running a jet with a higher degree bottom.... problems with cavitation and jet not getting enough water by water flowing away from jet unit versus to it...  Inboard jets are great for this dual purpose application, not perfect for sure but a better alternative than a jet motor being placed upon a hull designed for a prop...  Go direct to the manufacture like suggested above (geez so many and what is better than the others- is like Chevy over Dodge and Ford) versus a multi boat dealer that will sell anything to make a sale... no matter what the perfromance...
