If they did it wouldn't be too smart to admit it since the river is closed to fishing for them until this sunday...

I bet there is some in the river. Two year ago a buddy and I caught about 15 in a couple hours down around Kalama on the May 16th opener

Counts were 30 yesterday. At what daily count (after the opener) should I start fishin' it?

Where do you plan on fishing? If up by the dam, there should be catchable numbers by the first or second week in june

I am going to give the dam area a go. Looked at some info from WDFW and Bonneville . Would a 16-foot semi-V and a 40hp prop do ok there, or should I get my buddy with a sled or just pound the bank? Either way, I'll be there.

I've never fished them from a boat up by the dam, I've just always banked it.

Your boat would work fine. You run down about a half mile to the island and anchor in 10 to 15 feet of warer. The 10th of june is when they figure the peak of the shad run.

You should be able to catch a few.  If you haven't fished the area out of a boat be carefull.  The current fluctuates and towards the boat deadline it is rocky and you can loose anchors.  The fishing may be really hot at that time.

We use little dick nights that are silver with the red tail. Use a 3 way swivel with about 3 feet of lead line and a 5 foot leader it takes about 3 or 4 oz. to stay on the bottom. You also hook more if you lift your pole up and down all the guides do this.

just bring some colored beads and run one to your hook.  dick nites, triple teazers and shad darts are a waste of money.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Should be catchable numbers running late third week of May. Fish the Shad rach and have fun. Best crab bait in the world also. Fathers day weekend is normally around the peek of the run. They like small gold colored things. Gold hooks make a big difference.

With my work schedule I might buy shad this year for fishing sea monsters. I'm going to only have sundays to fish and don't want to take to much time on the shad. but they are fun to catch!!!

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?
