I'm am very sad to inform everybody that Boone has died. He passed away in his sleep last night. We buried him this memorial day in a place that overlooks one of our favorite hunting spots. He was a great dog and will be missed very much. After an autopsy the vet determined that it was most likely cancer, but she could not be sure. If is was cancer it was very deep seated and non lymphatic. My family and I are taking his death pretty hard as this is the second dog we have lost in the same month. Below are some pictures of Boone and some of the good times we have had. The one that shows his right leg shaved is just before his first birthday when we returned from surgery at WSU. RIP Boone you are missed and were loved until the end. Thanks to all of the Hunt-WA folks that have followed this thread and been so supportive you are a testament to the type of good people who belong to this site and the reason that I am proud to be a member.

Sorry to hear this.  Been following this story in reserve as well.  Sounded all to familiar to the last days of my previous lab.  She passed away from liver failure.  She was not in pain, the vet gave her a shot to relax her, and since there was nothing we could do he was able to give us the choice of how this took place.  I brought her home and she passed while in her bed in front of the fire place.  Just like at the vet's office only at home and on her own time.  It sounds like he passed in familiar surroundings as well.  I can only believe that being at home is less confusing and scary for our four legged family members that go to the other side.  If possible, that's a good way for it to happen if it has to be that way.  Again, condolences to you and your family.  I've been through a similar path and it is hard.

Well Cory you did everthing you could. I never new your dog but just followed the story as others did and as the story went on we felt like a part of it it and prayed and hoped as you did. I know others will have tears as I do as his struggles have ended but he was a very very lucky dog to have the family and friends and the Master that he had.  RIP

I'm real sorry to hear that Boone passed. I thought about you and him quite a bit while on vacation last week. I was hoping to hear some better news when we got home. I really believe that Boone saw how hard this ordeal was on you and chose not to put you through the anguish of having to put him down. It's part of that unconditional love that our pets have for us which is also one of the reasons we love them so much.

Rest in peace Boone!

Cory I am so sorry for you and your family. Losing a pet is painful but two in one month that is just not fair.

My sentiments exactly.  Boone is in a good place now.  RIP.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Cory:
Been following this thread and hoping it turned out differently.
All things aside, Any true waterfowler will agree that the best hunting buddy we have are the four legged ones. Labs like Boone and my Magnum live life with a passion and vigor that we cannot comprehend. They have the uncanny ability to love without condemnation and live their lives without regrets.
A true water dogs life is a hard and unforgiving one  swimming through ice and pounding the brush in search of downed game has got to take it's toll on them yet the wouldn't change it for the world, They are truly in their element and doing what they were bred to do. .
I put Magnum down last year and think of him daily I'm  not sad he's gone because it was my decision to let him go rather I feel fortunate to have spent so many wonderfull years with such an amazing friend that never left my side.

People can learn a great deal from Boone and Magnum

Sorry for your loss

Jeff

"I feel fortunate to have spent so many wonderfull years with such an amazing friend that never left my side".

That about sums it up.  Couldn't have said it better.

I've been following this thread every morning.  Sorry it turned out this way.  My son's chocolate lab is named "Boone" as well.
