has anyone done any pig hunting, planning on a hunt in the fall just wondering if anyone has a story or can suggest a good caliber

Where are you planning to go Hog hunting?  Hogs really don't need any crazy caliber.  .270 should be plenty.

Last time I was down south I took out 2 with my 6mm, both brain busters  though. I also got one with my 30-30 T/C contender at 40 yards with no problems. Like Michelle said I would stick with a .270 if you have one but a .243 will do the job.

  I used to hunt them all the time in California while stationed down there. I used my .270 and/or my 30.06 and had no issues putting them down.

those hogs are not like the true blood russians that have shields on them i shot a 350+ boar in new zealand that took 3 well places 180grain bullets from my 300 win mag from 50-80 yards away to take him off of his feet regular feral hogs like in oregon are not hard to kill they are tuff but any well placed shot will work but pigs do swell shut like bears and don't bleed very well so if you are shooting for vitals then the larger calibers are better 30+ 270 will work fine but i go with bigger is better are these feral hog you are hunting or are you hunting with a outfitter that has a preserve? hogs with any russian blood are not legal here in washington or oregon as well. so the shield is not a problem for you. you could always just mellon punch them and not mess up to much meat or worry about tracking
