SneakyJake 2010
« on: May 14, 2010, 07:30:26 AM »
Late pictures.  Had a good year as usual.  Took my nephew on his first hunt ever of anything.  We passed up on a lot of birds trying to get him a shot.   I think we definitely schooled him though.  A week of killing birds, he always got up, never complained, wanted to roost every night.  The perfect hunting partner.  He will make a good replacement for the old guys who won't chase them with me anymore.  It's going to take a few years for the birds to recover and re-establish into the areas that were snowed in.  I think the coyotes did a number on them, but we cut wolf tracks up there so I think the coyotes days are numbered.   Oh, and BTW, those aren't jakes.  They are gobblers.  They gobbled and charged so they got shot!

I'm envious of the second to last picture, the guy holding the gobbler head. Why didn't I think of that? Classic. I'm totally doing that next year. Congrats on the season.

I am ashamed to say I did not get out this spring.  It has been a difficult spring with a lot of things needing attention.  Hopefully next year!

I got to hunt 6-1/2 days with "newbies" with for 5 of those and 1/2 day of really lousy weather ... so many birds, so little time ....

Hopefully next year will be better and with tons more time ...

JC is 15.  It was a great age to have him out there.  He did have problems staying awake for the 8 o-clock bite, but don't we all.  I have some video of him also snoring.  He wouldn't be the first hunter to wake up to a gun shot or a gobble from ten feet away.  Al, I was alsonwondering about that sign you put on your trailer.  By the way, Steve is the fastest man alive.  He tagged out so early that he spent the week playing catch and release with the birds.  He call them to within feet and reach out and grab a hold of them.  Not sure if it was legal or not.  As you can see they seemed pretty surprised by it.

Sneaky Jake,

Looks like you had another banner year of tearing it up in the turkey woods.  Congrats on a another successful season.   :)
