Idaho Spring Bear down!
« on: May 15, 2010, 11:14:54 PM »
Been baiting since April 16th. Bears really didnt start hitting the bait good till the last 2 weeks. Season closed today and here is last nights success..

It happened so fast I didnt even get a chance to get my heart rate going till after it was down. I was looking at my trail cam pics on my camera in my tree when I looked up to see him at about 30 yards walking in. I got stood up, grabbed my bow. Drew when his head went behind the stump and he walked out broadside at 15 yards. Complete pass through right through his shoulders and he ran 31 yards before piling up. Watched the whole thing from my tree. That entire encounter I bet took at most 45 seconds, from seeing him to him lying there not moving. It was surreal.
My first bear, been baiting them for about 5 different years and have had close calls but no success. Missed a few more with my bow on spot and stalks.
He'll probably go the 130 to 150 range. I couldlnt pick him up to put him on the atv. Just a shy under 5'. About a average boar in Idaho. It was fun!!!
I'd rather have a bow in my hand then this keyboard!

Nope - wasn't me.  No problems with losing any dogs this weekend for us.  GPS collars on most of them.  They work great.

Great 1st bear Top pin! Especially with your bow.

How far from Lewiston were you hunting? I grew up there and plan on baiting next year. I haven't decided if I want to hunt out of Lewiston or go up north. PM me if you'd like. It would be nice to hear from someone from the valley.

Good job!

Congrats on your first bear!  May many more come your way!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
