Picked up a new Rifle

i have had the chance over the years to buy several 338 win mag but never have pulled the trigger on one untill yesterday. i mainly shoot a 300 win mag sako A 7 but its kinda my baby and i don't want to use it for everything like my bear calling and such so i figured the 338 win mag would be great for this and hunting in the timber were all my shots will always be less then 200 yards. this is a ruger m 77 in 338 win mag with the old style tang safty it has only been shot 9 times. I got a really good deal on it and traded some stuff that i was not using anymore or did not have a use for. and a little cash and now she is mine. but now i need to get a scope/dies/componets etc so but it should be a great gun first ruger rifle i have ever bought except for the 10/22 and i have bought 5 of them over the years i figured i could give a long gun a try no scratches on it 99.9% bluing gun was made between 88-89. i am very happy with it. does anyone have this same gun. i am probably going to start with a 200 grain ct and nosler partiton and see what it likes.

I just picked up a 338 winmag myself...Weatherby Vanguard MOA Stainless w/ timney trigger.
Quite possibly my favorite caliber, and definitely will do the trick on bear.

I have a Ruger M77MKII Stainless in 338. Bell&Carlson stock, Timney trigger and a 2.5x10x44mm Sightron. I have been shooting Federal Fusion 225gr it seems to like them. I have 3 old models like yours, this one, a 77/17HMR, and bought the wife a new M77 Hawkeye last fall. You can't go wrong with the Rugers other than the occasional sucky trigger but throw in a Timney and good to go.

Great looking rifle. I like the laminated stock. And you can't beat the 338 Win Mag. Good all around cartridge, will work for anything in North America.

Those Rugers are beautiful guns and the .338 Win Mag is an awesome cartridge.  Bullet weights from 180 on up to 300 grains and it hits hard with some loads developing more than 4,200fpe at the muzzle and 2,000fpe at 400 yards.

Nice aquisition Carp.  One of the guys on here shoots the Accubond in 338 and really likes it.  Try the slow burning stuff and it ought to shoot fine.

thankx, it points nice and i have been surfin for a new scope and reloading stuff. i guess i should also say that is not my carpet as well it is the pic from the guy i bought it from. i used it instead of taking new ones. our carpets are cleaner

Great rifle. I've got the stainless/laminate version and love it. Be prepared for sticker shock on ammo

i shoot handloads and will start from scratch my ammo for the 50 cal is between 2.50-8.00 a round so 40.00 for a box of 338 aint to bad i think the rems are 38.00 at bi mart
