Using dogs for sheds!

That's not the only can of worms she opened.  How about the fee or fine when you blast a 5K dog for running deer in the spring, then find out he was with his owner. 

Illegal in the state of Washington for a common citizen to do euthanize a dog for running deer or other wildlife!
According to the game warden in our area the following procedures must be followed.
1. You make complaint
2. They investigate
3. Between the two of you identification of owner of dog is desired
4. Game warden needs to contact dog's owner if possible
5. If the problem persists then and only then can action be taken
6. Action can consist of the following but not limited to
    a. fine owner and have dog confined to kennel, chain etc.
    b. live trap dog, find home for dog, fine owner
    c. euthanize dog and fine owner

If the proper procedures are not followed the dog's owner has a legal case to sue you or the state for wrongful death of the dog.

my dog is so obsessive about things that i would be quite confident i could train him to find sheds. i almost want to say easily, but i won't cuz i know better than that. if i lived in an area where there was more shed hunting opportunities i would work harder at it.

Head-shot, I worked with a lady that owned that breed, but it Squiggy was considered inferior because she had some hair, it did have those ugly teeth though. Funny thing every AM I'd come in, sit down, look over my repair calls for the day and that ugly ass dog would crawl up in my lap and want me to pet it and such. Really a nice dog once you got over the teeth and the sparse hair. At first it gave me goose bumps!!!!

My Dad has said he read an article in Bugle Magazine the other day about this topic, how some guy trained dogs to find sheds....charges 5K a pop for em...PS..Boneaddict...im jealous once again.

My dog is in Bird Training school and I asked the trainer about this. He said one guy came up to him at the sportsman show and wants him to train his dog how to hunt sheds. He said you just have to get a shed and get the dog used to bringing it back to you the reward him.

I worked with the border collie on this some and had a little success.  She's a freak about fetch and will play with anything i throw.  We had an antler in the toy box and get her playing with it then took her out to find some placed antlers around the yard.  She ended up finding a couple, but we found more than she did on horseback. It was nice having her grab them and give them to me on the horse. 
 I don't think she's going to make much of an antler dog...
