My first Bowfishing attempt!!!
« on: May 16, 2010, 11:32:07 PM »
well i went out on the columbia and a few of its little ponds to nail some small mouth and brought my new bowfishing set up out. im shooting a martin jaguar with ams set up on it. it was my first time every bowfishing and ever shooting a long bow today ( normally hunt with a compound) and it was quite the experience. I kept shooting high and shooting from the bank wasnt helpin much. it was a fun attempt but i definitely need some help and waaayyyy more practice!!! any tips on shooting carp from the bank would be awesome, i dont have access to a boat so shooting from the bank is about as good as i can do. maybe a few feet higher up..

heres my first shot into some carp. see if you could spot them!!!

also a few of the small mouth i got!!

it is a art for sure you have to remember that thwater refracts the fishes image so you alway have to aim low and depending on the angle lower :chuckle: if you ever have any questions on gear or anything pm me i am the local freak and always glad to help out. were are you located at to be shooting the columbia.

Aim lower, and when you think you are low enough, aim lower.   :twocents:  Once you get the angle figured out it will be a blast.  nice fish by the way.
I've hunted almost everyday of my life, the rest have been wasted.

Nice pics. Good luck with the bow on the carp, looks like fun.  You can always catch the carp on some dough bait too if they are a bit too deep. Carp fight great on light tackle.

Some polarized sunglasses will do you a world of good.  You'll have to figure out the point of aim for yourself, I am for what appears to be a foot below the carp, for every foot of depth.  4' down seems to be the maximum for me, shooting a compound.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

If you can get higher up on something other than the bank it will help as well.  Other than that I will echo the others with shoot LOW and the polarized sunglasses are a absolute must have for bowfishing
Marines do it better

It is like golf, Practice, Practice, Practice.  Best advice so far was if you think you are aiming low enough, aim lower.  It will take 20 or so shots for a person to begin to shoot under the fish.  Once you actually shoot under a fish you will start to figure out where to aim/point!  Good luck!
