I would assume you are lodging and feeding yourself. Without references and photo history I would be skeptical.

Maybe he's just an experienced hunter that's hard up for cash and wants to take you to his honey hole..... you never know. Maybe pay $250 up front and $250 when your deer is down. Just make sure you talk to him and make sure you know what your getting into. I know lots of places I could take a "pet deer" with a bow. It just defeats the purpose of why I hunt.

i know that guide service very well. that shelbys guide service and he is the biggest joke ever.
i did a guided coyote hunt with him when i was younger and even though he guarenteed 1 if not 2 yoties i did'nt get anything
we practicly did'nt even hunt
we drove around main roads while he talked about past experiences where he has snuck clients on to private lands to shoot deer and how they have shoot deer right off the pavement on roads in that area.
we were only out of the truck 15 minutes on that trip.
on elk hunts he talked to us and tried getting us to book a trip to the peninsula with him and said he had 100% success on elk with his clients but the catch was that he had'nt been to the area in over ten years.
he said to us that he post the garenteed word on bear hunts with a higher price just to get more money out of people knowing they are'nt near guarenteed.
i refused to pay him but only half the price for that trip and i should'nt have given that pile of crap a dime. my hunt was suppose to be a baited hunt and then got turned into an electric call hunt and then when the day came it was turned into a mouth call hunt, but when the hunt came it was turned into a ride the pave roads and talk trip.
do not go their :bdid:

I don't think it is, because the price list I posted was from Shelby's website, and a 5 day rifle hunt with him would be $2,100, and that isn't guaranteed.

Yes, and the original poster of the topic has not been back to check in and fill us in on more details. What type of license is required in this state to be a hunting guide? I wasn't aware there were any requirements such as that.

I do believe there is a Guide Lic that must be obtained to call your self a legal hunting guide (no expert by any means).

Norsepeak would be the expert on this though.

It's funny some of you guy's are like check his license and this and that. Well if you just dropped a 100+ class blacktail on public land fair chase. Had up to a 5 day one on one hunt and also were learning how to pattern and hunt these darn ghosts. would you say can i see your license? How many people have hired a person under the table to do work? well normally you check references and or see there work.

I wouldn't trust any guarantee in regard to blacktails. I've hunted them since I was 8 years old, and put  in more days afield after them than any other species and still haven't connected on one.

I believe the first question was to see if any of us would be interested in a hunt from him. Kinda like a feeling out question to gauge interest. He probably has a couple of honey holes that he would be willing to take you to and if you shot something then you pay. Sounds fair to me. I know there has been times I've seen animals on private land thought, I wonder if they would take $500 to let me shoot that animal.

i wouldnt say can i see your license because when i drop a 100+ black tail its a DIYS hunt. dont pay a guide for blacktails in open units, get out and put some work in. you can do it with out a guide trust me.
