I'm pretty sure a guiding license is not required for hunting in this state.......

Me too.

I think everyone probably knows what I meant, but now that I read my quote it doesn't look right.  :P

I should have said:  I'm pretty sure a guiding license is not required for guiding hunters in this state......

I think the Department of Revenue would disagree. Whether they find out about it or not is a different story. If your calling yourself a "guide", that implies you are a business owner by definition, taking money for it is the other requirement. It's really about taxation, as some are aware, under the table cash is never a good idea if you are claiming to run a business, it just doesn't work that way, if it did a whole lot more people would be working for themselves. :twocents:. I think some are confused between a guiding license and a business license.

I heard on contract work you don't have to have a business license unless you make over 10k a year, as long as you pay the IRS at he end....

The IRS is not the same as the State Dept. of Revenue, or DOL. I have owned my own business in Wa. If you operate within the State you are also subject to taxation by the State, as well as the IRS.

Good points Dman.

From the DOL website:
You need a license if you meet one or more of the following criteria:
Your business grosses $12,000 or more per year.
You are doing business using a name other than your full legal name.
You plan to hire employees within the next 90 days.
You sell a product or provide a service that is taxable. To find out more information about what products or services are taxable, Department of Revenue’s business tax guide can answer most of your questions, or call them at 1-800-647-7706.
Your business has specialty licenses available through the Master License Service.

...don't forget about liability issues if a customer gets hurt or there is an accident of any kind... under the table guiding seems to open you up to all sorts of potential problems. :bdid:
