I'm a big fan of a tent. I have a Northface canyonlands which I love. These days you can find a good tent that doesn't weigh much more than a sack. I really enjoy having room to sit up, store my pack and bow inside, hang clothes to dry, cook, read, work on equipment, etc... my tent weighs 3lbs. If you look long enough on craigslist you'll find some great deals. My dad bought a Big Agnes seedhouse 2 for $100 brand new!

Ive had the same NF tent for about ten years now. Under 4 lbs, three season, I don't remember which model. Its perfect. Packs smaller than a loaf of bread and sets up and takes down real easy. Well ventilated too, I was able to spend a few nights in it during an archery elk season a couple years back with Wastickslinger and his IBS and I was able to handle it.

funny story,
for years we have been talking about going back into a remote area we can only hunt half way back because of lack of day light, and dropping some bivy supplies to give us a night back there, so this year we Finlay did it. i dropper a oiled canvas bag and a down comforter, a tarp some candles, line, tools etc, in 2 sealed 5 gallon buckets. my 3 buddies did the same even a stove. that was in early June. it is a sweet set up, real nice spot. but then we got lucky, we drew cow tags, the funny part is the tags we drew were for our 3rd choice, for a different unit. that changes everything, so i may not get back to it until next year. i am sure my stuff will still be right where i left it.

If a Bear can smell those candles or any food, The buckets will be dug up and opened. You can almost bet on that.

yes sir we thought about that, a member of our party took a bear in there last year, on the last day of bear season. but the are not berried, they are hung in trees in food grade sealed buckets. if they are by some chance gone then so be it. but we took every precaution we could think of.
