Draw length a bit long
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:57:24 PM »
So I have a pretty good bow, killed plenty of small game gonna try for big game this year, but the draw length is too long. About an inch too long with the release I use. It doesn't seem to affect me but i tried a couple shots with my release hooked on the string instead of the little string loop, and it was much better. I adjusted it to where its the shortest draw possible but my bow is supposed to be for someone with like a 30+ draw length where mine is 27-28. Should I buy a new shorter release? Or can i just hook my release onto the string and take off the loop? I considered selling my bow and buying a new one but times are tight and this is a perfectly fine bow. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks and happy hunting

Proper draw length will make you a much better shooter. See if you can get a smaller draw module. You may also have to get a new string/cables.

What kind of bow is it? I had a Martin, and they are real easy and cheap to change draw length. You just have to buy the right module, and it was only $10 or $15 if I remember right. Other bows require more drastic modifications to change draw length.

Your local dealer should have some (mine just gave me a few).  Or contact martin, they are really inexpensive.

If your firecat is a newer model I have the draw modules in stock.  Bring it by Whlesale Sports in Federal Way, and I'll swap out the module for free. :IBCOOL:

You will pick up accuracy with a correct draw length.  If it is a faster bow at further distances it can cause shots to go left and right from trying to compensate for over draw.

definetly take up old dog on the offer. those guys realy know there stuff. anytime i need anything they always go out of there way to help me out. by far the best techs i have ever delt with. old dog is larry, he's as old as time () and he realy knows his stuff. or ask for crazy eyes. these guys realy do care about the customer. they will insure you and your bow fit perfectly together, they may even give you some shooting tips. all in all i have spent probly 4-5 hours with them just tweaking my form and it has made3 me a much better shooter. sorry larry  :hello:
