Bullets for reloading
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:45:36 AM »
Looking into reloading for my xd 45. I was looking at midway for Raineer bullets 200 gr RN. Just wondering where everybody else shops at? Is there a cheaper place to get reloading stuff?

graff and sons reloading pays the shipping to you. that is were i buy most of my stuff. i do order from cabelas and midway several times a year but free shipping is nice they just charge you a handling fee. also Natchez shooters supply is a good one as well. Rainer makes some pretty good bullets. i like winchester bulk bullets for plinking and hornaday xtps for hunting and carry loads in most my revlovers

The Rainers should be fine. I've used the Berry plated 200 gr, and they worked just fine.

I no longer have an XD45 but loaded 200gr lead SWC's with good results (still use 'em in my 1911's).
The proper mixture (HARD) keeps lead fouling from being an issue at all, and I had 100% reliability/performance even over 900fps.

For $82 per 1k shipped you can't go wrong--loaded ammo running $6.60-7.00 per 50rnds.

I haven't used Ranier plated bullets, but Ive used plated bullets from a couple other companies. The plating is extremely thin, and I found the lead cores to be fairly soft...so care had to be taken when crimping. Overall, though, a great way to save some bucks...but non-plated/jacketed bullets are easier on barrels and can get you better velocity.

For jacketed I've been using Montana Gold as I can get them fairly cheap locally and I have been very pleased with them. I still choose hard-cast 99% of the time though, for .45acp and .38/357.
I left it better than I found it...did you?
