Stupid question because of my stupid decision...
« on: May 24, 2010, 07:00:59 PM »
I'm hoping this is the right place for this question...with 2 days left before the special permit draws... is it legal to change out my general archery '10 tag for a general Muzz '10 tag. I only put in for points on the special permit hunts so that shouldn't change anything. Has anybody done this?

I think you'll be able to do that. Try calling Olympia first thing in the morning.

This is the number you need to call:  360-902-2464

Skookum could be right since you already applied for permits. But I'd still call and find out for sure.

Generally speaking you can switch until you have applied for a permit including ghost points.  I doubt they will allow you to switch now.

yes, i think you can because it does not matter if you put in for special apps. because you can switch your tag up till the first day of the first season. i have a friend that puts in for rifle elk tags and if he does not draw he switches to archery to hunt general season. so i would think you would be fine

If he is able to do that he must have a friend at the WDFW.

I've heard of others trying to change tags before the season starts and they were turned down because they had applied for special permits. Just what I've heard. If tags really can be exchanged there would be a lot of people buying eastside elk tags and applying for eastside permits, then if nothing is drawn, switching over to a westside tag.

From the errata:

The Refunds/Exchanges paragraph incorrectly states that “Exchanges of hunting license
documents will not be made after the general season begins”. This should state that “Exchanges
of hunting license documents will not be made after 5:00 on May 26 for those applying for
special permits or after the general hunting season opens (Sept. 15 for modern and muzzleloader
tag holders and Sept. 1 for archery tag holders)”.

That's pretty clear.  If you submit a permit application, even for a ghost point, you cannot exchange your license after May 26.
