If it was just a pic of the body, it could be called a griz, but the face gives it away as a black bear.

Thanks for the input! I kinda thought is was a blackie, but wasn't positive. Looks like a nice size bear. She was hoping it was a grizzly.

Very pretty bear, and good sized bear, but definitely a black bear.

It's probably a lot more rare to get good pics of a black bear in that color phase than it is to get pics of a grizz.  She shoudl be thrilled it's a blackie!
