Does dropping fawns?
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:13:55 AM »
I snapped this photo on 5/24.  I would have thought Does would have dropped fawns in the March/April time frame.  This doe sure looks pregnant.

Are they just now starting to drop?

The first week of June is when you should start seeing fawns.

Saw a brand new fawn monday night down in the Blues. Couldn't have been more than a couple days old.
Saw probably 100 does between muleys and whiteys and that was the only baby I saw.
Sorry no pics.

Got pics of a lil guy up in those parts tonight.  Mama was feeding in a field and he was standing in the middle of the road.  I got out to get him off the road, and as mama must have taught him, he went 3 feet off the road and layed in the grass with his head down.

Very nice picture, awesome....

I'm glad the rain stopped today, pretty soon its going to have an effect on fawns and turkey chicks if it doesn't let up over here for a week or two.

Haven't heard if there is more coming.

Wazukie, man the coloring on that fawn is beautiful.
There were 4 does in my yard this morning and none have dropped yet.  I did see 2 new elk calves across the pasture the other day.  I tried to get pics but 500 yards is a little too far for my camera.  LOL!

Saw one yesterday at the Andy Creek TH on Russell Ridge.  Doe trotted off and the fawn went right down.  My son saw the whole thing, first time he has got to see that act.  We went up on the ridge until we got stopped by snow on the Ironstone Trail.  Walked up on a couple of calves sleeping right off the trail, and we saw a plethora of adult elk.

Today in the Umptanum we saw nearly 50 deer but only two fawns, very small.  Saw a lot of lone does looking like they're looking for a spot to pop.  Walked up another pair of calves, too.  I'm not much of a flower guy, but the North side of Umptanum is spectacular right now to the point that I was ohh and aahing and my son was looking at me kind of funny.

Oh for heaven's sake! Don't say locations on these fawns! The ungulate haters will introduce wolves in those areas so they can eat up the little ones.

But keep posting pics :)

i work out on McNeil Island and have the opportunity to drive around periodically and see the sights.  Fawns are dropping like crazy out there.  Unfortunately can't bring a camera out to take pics due to security reasons.  That Island has about 4600 acres and its quite a wildlife sanctuary.  There's been a bear out there that swam over from the mainland but i've not heard any sightings recently.  Biggest buck i've seen out there is a 8X6 blacktail with double drop tines.  He was standing right next to the road eating blackberries and I was about 60 feet from it.  Instinctively I reached for any weapon I might have but only came up with a ball point pen.  just sat there and shook my head at his size.....wow !

The doe in our yard dropped her fawn about a week ago.  The afterbirth was over by the garden.... :puke:

I've only seen the little guy (or girl) for a brief moment on Sunday and wasn't quick enough with the camera. :(

They finished haying our front pasture today and I was watching the turkey vultures some were sitting in the pasture by the drive, when a spottie (fawn) comes loping up from the woods and across the drive, tongue hanging out and wet. I dont know who was chasing him but I grabbed my rifle and went to stop the threat, I didn't see a coyote which is who i suspected or lion, but I'm still standing watch. I won't tollerate predation on my fawns if I can help em.

I drove over hwy 410 pass yesterday morning . I saw more than 50 elk & all had calves ( one and two each ) . I saw 12 deer and not a single fawn . They could of been hiding but the does still looked fat. The elk seemed pretty scrawny. One thing that was weird is I saw 2 big bulls on the west side fully developed, both over 5 pt per side but on the east side I saw 5 bulls and all were just starting to develop. All the bulls were just above the ears , starting to branch with balls on top. If the west side bulls develop anymore, they will be toads. Mike
