Newman Lake?
« on: June 04, 2010, 10:56:02 AM »
I am renting a boat this weekend and was thinking about hitting Newman Lake on Sunday.  I have never fished this lake before and was wondering if anyone could provide a little info on where to go on the lake.  I really want to get the wife into some fish, mainly bass with a chance at a tiger musky.  Thanks.

I have only been out there once this year, about 3 weeks ago. I was out there for a couple hours in the morning. I fished along the docks by the launch and fished the lillies across from the launch. I fished senkos, crankbaits, jerk baits, spinner baits, and plastic craws. Didn't get a hit on anything. the water was pretty cold and muddy when i was there but the fishing should be better now that water should be a little warmer. Last year we caught a few bass each time we went but never really figured out what to use and where to use it. I caught one musky last year about 50 yards out from the pads straight across from the launch on a hawg boss crank in rainbow trout color. That's about all the info i got.  I hope this helps.

I fish Newman quite alot.  I usually have the best luck on the North side of the lake. I would throw a spinner bait in the morning and evening.  The rest of the time I usually throw a Brush Hog in pumpkin seed or watermelon red.  They should be pretty close to the spawn about now, but who knows the weather has been a little weird lately. You need to get in there amongst them in the pads to catch more fish.  Tiger Musky could be anywhere as far as I know.  I would use a big Husky Jerk along the edge of the pads.  I heard from a good source that this was working well about 3 weeks ago.

Good Luck
