aluminum
« on: June 05, 2010, 10:31:34 AM »
does anyone think it is weird that i like to shoot aluminum arrows? they are so outdated but i can shoot the crap off of a fly with the easton xx75's. any input? last elk season my whole camp gave me a hard time for shooting a brand new bow madness with aluminum shafts.

One of my best hunting buddies still shoots aluminum, I rib him a little about being "outdated" :)   But he harvests a bull every year - with aluminum!  And has bigger trophy elk mounts than I will ever see!  All done with aluminum.  Stick to your "guns" .....er....shafts!  Proof is on the wall and in the freezer!

Nothing wrong with Aluminum! I've taken a few bulls with them. In the last 4 years I took 2 bulls with 2018 aluminum's out of a longbow, they are tough & do the job well, shoot/hunt with what works for you!

I had a couple of friends switch to the skinnier aluminum arrows because of carbon arrows breaking & splintering in the animal. My broadhead did break off of my carbon arrow on my Muledeer but did not splinter. I'm staying with carbon but have heard guys changing back. As with everything , aluminum might make a comeback and you will be right back in fashion.  Mike

yep nothing wrong with them at all, they can be a bit hard to find sometimes but my best friend that i hunt with still shoots them i think it is the 2116 or 2216 or somthing like that. i still shoot some eastons out of my recurves and they shoot fine. most are flu-flu but still work great. if its not broke don't fix it :twocents:

I still use them.  I figure if wood arrows worked for all those years, aluminum should be just fine.  Besides I like the fact that if aluminum arrow is damaged you can see it.  Those carbon arrows make me a bit nervous with there ability to "blow up" if you don't catch the damage to the arrow.

i like how they shoot, they are heavy and fly solid and hit hard. because they are slower they are more accurate do to poor form not being as big of a factor. i just like them, i shoot about 250fps from my bow with them. they weight 535 grains. i shoot a muzzy 125 3 blade with them. and shoot a bow madness bow.
