I guess it depends on your reasoning for hunting out of a tree. Are you trying to gain a sight advantage or just stay out of a bears reach?

I definately would not go any higher then comfortable. Depending on the area, you may prefer a ground blind over a tree stand.

A tree stand probably would help to keep your scent high enough above the ground so bears would be less likely to get your scent. That is one of the biggest advantages, besides the better view that being up in a tree would give you.

I own a tree stand, and like being it, but I feel its too heavy, and loud for the heavy folige that I hunt.  Too bad I couldnt trust to leave it for a few days so I can silenty get up the tree.  I dont own a blind, and I am thinking of getting one, but not sure how much noise they make in setting up, and what about scent control, does a blind smell like a tent??

I did it last year, but didn't get to spend enough time in it to do any damage.  I'll do it again this year.  My thinking was to get my scent up above the bear.

I love hunting from a stand just because you have a better veiw of your surrounding, plus you feel safe. I usually maintain the same height as I do deer hunting, I really don't think it matters, if the bear wants to check u out, he will.

I am somewhat new to stand hunting, but the instrucitons on it stated that 20 feet up is a good height since deer dont look that high.  Is that the same for bears as well?

I hunt a lot from tree stands. I try and set my stand at least 20 ft above the grounding depending on terrain. After many years ( over 20) have gotten pretty good at setting up my stand quietly. Obviously be aware of wind conditions, travel routes before setting up stand. If wind conditions are not good do not use that stand area. Find somewhere else. The first few days of stand use , bow hunting, have always been best for me. I try and not over use a stand area. Maybe 2 times a week then move. Get up in stand before actually hunting and make sure that shooting lanes are cleared. I use pruning shears to do this and I try and do this a week before I use stand if possible.  I really pay attention to scent control and wear washed clothes, rubber boots when walking to stand. Make sure to wear a safety belt at all times. This includes climbing up to and getting in and out of stand. If possible practice shooting out of a stand if you have never done so. Bend at the waist when shooting.

Good luck
