New shotgun!
« on: June 09, 2010, 11:59:07 AM »
Went for a ride with the Father in law to Cabelas and found a new toy!
Benelli Nova used for $239.99! I've been needing a workhorse 12ga, one that can take the 3 1/2's also, and I think this will fill that gap nicely.
Wife wasn't too pleased, of course... the next shotgun was supposed to be hers!
Now; To the trap range!

That's CHEAP! was it used or NIB? Either way $239 for a nice shotgun is a steal!

It's used, but new to me! It's unbelievably clean, barrel looks perfect.
The best part of it is my father in law saw it first, but he just bought a Rem 887 in the same camo pattern new for like $550 less that a week before at Cabela's. He was pissed! He just handed it to me and walked away... I didn't let go until I had a reciept. :chuckle:

I shoot a Benelli Nova and love it. It is a solid gun that hasn't let me down.  :IBCOOL:

Anyone have experience with the mercury recoil reducing thingie you can put in the stock?
Just wondering if spending the hundred bucks on that hurts more than a days worth of shooting goose loads...

I have a buddy that has one and he says it helps quite a bit. I don't notice the kick when I'm hunting so I never wanted one. You mine as well just go buy a SBE 2  :chuckle:

I have tossed around the idea of a recoil pad for mine. If you are shooting 3 1/2's all day then it can start to punish your shoulder after a while. I actually started shooting 3's towards the end of the season just to avoid the problem. I didn't find that my hit ratio was any better or worse but there is something about shooting 3 1/2's that gives me more confidence...  :dunno:

I just keep thinking: Spend it on ammo... bruises heal...
Still, when you get a new toy, you want all the stuff that goes with it, right?

i shoot a slip on pad on all my shotguns when waterfowl hunting because 99% of the time i am shooting 3.5" shells and i like the little added length to my shotguns as well fits me better
