shooting free style what sight to get
« on: June 09, 2010, 10:25:23 AM »
I have always been a pin shooter but I've decided to set up my aphamax 35 and try shooting free style at 3-D shoots for awhile.  What is a good free style sight to look into.

the best, IMO is the tru ball excell. but also the most expensive, the copper john ants is good also (what i have). if you want to stay cheaper a black gold ascent with a windage block modified to accept a scope would be a good option. and i really like viper archery scopes for all the sights. good glass and sturdy pin and housing for 100 bucks.

I've been shooting the open class with a Black Gold Ascent (single horizontal pin).  This is my hunting setup.  I'm working on a target bow project and will be using a Sure-Loc Challenger frame with an Extreme 4x scope.  BTW, I have a Bull's Eye scope (4x) for sale on Archery Talk ( http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1227423 ).

Nothing wrong with any of them mentioned.  My sight for 3D is a Sure-Loc 450, and my scope is a Bull's Eye BOSS in 4X with .019 center-drilled lens.  Both have been solid for me.  Neither are as flashy as what you see out there now, but they do their job as long as I can do mine, and I got the combo for $125 on AT classifieds.

If you want rugged you can't beat Spot-Hogg.  Thier FS sights are great.  Easiest to adjust and are built to last.

Matt and Cory, you know what they say about oppinions.......... :tung:

I can't disagree with you guys because I have one of each.  They are all great sights and you really can't go wrong with any of them.  It comes down to which one "you" like the best.  The problem that you will have is you won't be able to go to any shop and check them all out.  No shop can afford to stock them like hunting sights.  And most guys aren't going to let you turn knobs and play with theirs.

You will find each one a little different.  CBE's don't have a quick slide, Copper John's axis are difficult to adjust.....etc.  Good luck.

What features or general benefits does the CBE or Tru Ball have over the others?  I *just* got my Athens Exceed 300 target bow together.  Still need to get it sighted-in this weekend.  I'm new to the target bow scene and found a pretty good deal on a used Sure-Loc Challenger.  Seem to do what it suppose to do, but again I'm a newb.

the sure-locs lock up in the rain and the bushing go out fast.
the CBE and Spot Hogg are built tough and I like how the 2nd and 3rd axis leveling works on the sight.
sure-locs are good for the $ and starting out with. you will soon be like the rest of us target shooters allways trying new things...fun fun

Here's a decent deal posted tonight in the AT classifieds that might pique your interest: Copper John ANTS with Viper Scope for $200 http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1240580
