Parker Bow's under-rated?
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:04:55 PM »
I have a Parker Outfitter XP with max speed listed at 287FPS and it goes through my straw target, with a full pass-through at up to 25yds. I have not been an archer for long, but even friends of mine that have been bow hunting for quite a while are impressed with it. Is the speed maybe under-rated? I've shot the Hoyt PowerHawk, Martin Cheetah and Browning Rage and it seems nearly as fast to me.

Take it down to the local bowshop and shoot it through a chronometer.  Also, the speeds on the bows are IBO speeds so go shoot a hunting arrow and see what happens.

I don't know much about the Martins or Brownings but I heard pretty good things about the PowerHawks.  I think that you're in good company if you're shooting with them.

the rating on the bow is caled ibo and there is a industry standard to come up with this number a lot of times they will shoot like 100 shots and take the highest number that pops up and advertise with it . they are a good bow but it will not be under rated. the only way it is diffrent is if the bow say 340 like my x force at 70 lbs and i crank it up to 83lbs then yeah it is going to be faster but that would not be the same as ibo setup. you can shoot it threw a chrony but with your setup and a normal hunting arrow at 70lbs i would say 250fps if the ibo is around 300

PARKERS ARE A GOOD BOWS,VERY POPULAR BACK EAST.They are usually priced lower than other popular brands,ie. hoyt, mathews, bowtech, pse, etc. They are fast enough,to kill things for sure.Hard to see/tell how fast a bow is  by feel and sight.Go chrono it with other bows, using same arrow. If you were shooting through cedar bales,I would be impressed!!LOL

Just straw bales, but yeah, I was surprised too using blunt tips. I always shoot the same arrows for practice/ hunting, I don't like to change it up for the sake of practice, I find it throws me off. I had just read from some other Parker owner's they have chrono'd the bow's IBO up to over 300FPS. My buddy shoots an old bow set at 64lbs, it is noticeably slower than mine set at 60lbs, using similar arrows.
