SW WA Deer Hunting

I was wondering if anybody has done any deer hunting in Pacific, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark, or Skamania Counties?  I'm starting to get back into hunting and live in Clark County.  I still have to get to the regional WDFW office and get deer population reports for the surrounding areas and then do some scouting, but first person information is also very desired.  Thanks in advance.

First look at harvest reports which are available on the WDFW website. They will give you an idea of relative deer numbers in the areas you are interested in.

There is also trend and status reports from the local biologists for each regions.

Dont waist your time in Pacific . I live here and am a timberfaller in the woods 6 days a week and we go weeks some times and never see deer . On the other hand we just cut two jobs in behind the steam plant in centralia seen tons of deer every day. Not sure the unit might be the skookumchuck. It was weyco property walkin only.

I've hunted clark, skamania, and cowlitz and each unit has some good areas for deer. Seeing your from vancouver, look up the east fork of the lewis beyond sunset falls and look up to the south. Might even look toward larch and silver star as I know of some good clearcuts that are showing some potential.

The deer are everywhere in the sw. I lived there for 10 years and got deer every year. Keep your eyes open and try not to make noise. Those blacktails blend in great on a sunny day let alone when it's raining out. Scouting does help so you know the area but blacktails generally don't take the same paths every day. They seem to switch up the times they use them frequently. good luck

300winmag, thanx for the heads up about Pacific.  Bowhiker and Shoot-em-dead, thanx for the info.  As for scouting the area, it's all about becoming more familiar with the area, and plotting points on my GPS.  thanx again.

ya i mainly hunt elk in pacific county but i hunt deer there a little bit too. i wouldn't waste your time there. the hair loss really wiped them out.

Used to be chit load of deer in the Washougal unit.  Have not hunted it in years.  I got tired of dealing with Weyerhauser and the locked gates on the "Burn".  However, I shot some real nice bucks in there over the years.

I have hunted the washougal area a few times and it seems like the place for every man, child, and dog to get their does and small bucks. I am not up on the regs there anymore, but between archery, rifle and muzzleloader, let alone the late "shotgun" season, I never found too many deer out there.
