+1 on the vortex 4-12x40. I got a really good deal on one that I put on a Stevens .30-06, and have been very happy with it. So far I have only used it on paper, but I am hoping to connect with a deer and/or elk this year.

Oh and if you want a really good deal on a Vortex scope contact Elknut1 on this board he is the one who sold me mine, and he gave me a VERY sweet price on it.
