Rasbo and Toejam, it was nice talking to you guys this morning. I have read this site for a long time and am glad that you guys asked me to join. After I left you guys, I went to a place that I have been hiking to and found a lot more sign today. It seems as if this bear goes on the opposite side of where I am constantly. I don't believe I am very far from him, but I just can't seem to get a look at him.

This is my first post so I hope that I am doing this right.

Rasbo, I tried some screaming as you call it today, and I think that every doe in the area came in to check me out. The first came in hard in less than 10 seconds and made a large circle all the way around me. I wish that I knew how to call the bear in this area.

what your doing is working. If the does are running in your fine...It takes many sets some times for some action,,,But once one comes in and you have a close encounter of the big fur...yeah boy,,Ill call 100 sets and not get disappointed

Im taking it that you guys are fawn calling.... Have you ever tried cub calling ?  Have a friend down in Cali that kills a lot of bear that way and I had never heard of anyone doing that way before.

Cub distress is often frowned upon as it has a tendency to call in more sows than boars.

buy who and why...cubs do well without mom when abandoned some cases even healthier than cubs with moms...The Idea of a spring hunt is to save trees...

Didn't get a chance to sit there last night. Ended up hooking up with a buudy that also has a tag and since I said I wouldn't take anybody there, I didn't. I will be sitting there this afternoon when the wife get's home. Keep your finger's crossed. Thanks again Rasbo for your time, I learned some good info and had a good time.

There was a bachelor group of five bucks in where you were yesterday. I will for sure be spending some time in there before my Sept. 1st archery opener. I also counted 13 does in one 200 yards section the other night. That is gonna be some great area.

Rasbo, my buddy would use a small drinking glass. Kinda like the ones they serve water in at a restraunt.  Have you tried it that way ?

Well, give it a try and let me know how it works for you.  The only thing I can help you with is that he held it at an angle to his mouth and called like a cub into the cup which would simply amplify it.

Was it the one you have had your eye on? The taxidermist for Butch's bear said that when they are that black they reflect the sky that's why they seem to have a blue tint. Pretty cool.

It is great to hear your able to get back into your play ground again. I have only been seeing doe's and one spike so far. Very few fawns or big bucks thus far. One pile left behind by smokey next to a trashed log full of carpenter ants. I think the bear may be baiting for ants with its berry milk.
