I have a J.C. Higgins, model 50,30-06 in almost perfect condition,it has a Mauser action with a chromed High Standard barrel.
Wondering if anyone is familiar with one? and know the value?

go to gunbroker.com or gunsamerica.com.
type all the info into the search function and search it. see what you come up. regardless of what price books or value guides say, a gun is only worth what someone else will pay for it. it sounds like a cool old rifle.
are you interested in selling it or just curious what it's worth??
the only thing i know about jc higgins is i have a jc higgins sidexside shotgun in my garage. i don't think it's worth much and i've never shot it.

I can't make up my mind if I want to sell it or not,I don't have any sentimental value other than the fact it was made in the 1950's,it's light, and in great condition.
I know if I was to replace it with a new one similar I would end up paying close to a thousand. I could never get close to that I'm sure.
I prefere 270 cal. and don't think I'll ever hunt with a 30-06,so I would sell it for the right price.

Just found this. It was Sears & Roebuck that that wanted to market this and pushed for it's production. You might have a real keeper there.
The Model 50 was originally produced by Belgium's Fabrique Nationale using a commercial 98 Mauser action and 22 inch chrome lined barrel from High Standard. The chrome-lined barrels were limited to Models 50 and 51.
The overriding consensus regarding the J.C. Higgins Model 50 is that it's a rifle worth holding on to if you have one, and worth seeking out if you do not. Prices are generally suppressed because of the department store association. Despite this, it is among the finest hunting rifles ever mass produced. This point is emphasized by the fact that these can be bought at bargain prices. Expect to pay between $200 and $400 depending on condition and how much the seller knows about this fine rifle. If one were to build such a gun today using the same FN action, the price would easily exceed $1000.
