Painted the horns from my pronghorn

Still drying. They had a large degree of discoloring from the beetle festival. I'm not a pro. When the paint dries it doesn't look as shiny.

Should be able to get it on a plaque later this week.

those are good looking forsure..bucklucky I think had some mounted on that style that looked great..Not sure if he orders them or makes them

Dang Ray, your reloading bench gets used for many things.  Mine does too. 


Nice set of Horns.  Should look real cool on a plaque.

Ray did you use Burnt Umber?

Yes, burnt umber. I did a patch yesterday and let it dry. Looked good to me. Takes a long time to dry.

Ray I would go back over it with some Black Umber.  They are a little to brown.

Here is a quick pic that I have.  I didn't color these.  Only thing I did was touch up the base to match the rest of the horn.

Black does look good. I have to disagree that they are too brown. In fact they are now much darker than the horns originally were. I've seen a few pronghorns on here that I felt were too black on the horns. No discredit as the taxidermists were great.

I'm going to wait until they dry before I decide if I will make another pass at painting them.

Are you using acrylic paint?  I have a buck I'd like to re-color like that.  Looks pretty nice and easy to do.

It's an oil paint. It is easy to do. Therefore if I want to recolor again it should not be too difficult.

Oil Paint.  You can pick them up at most craft stores.  Micheals and Jo-Anns should carry them.

Thanks - apply with a soft brush for hte heavy textured areas and maybe wipe to blend into the tops?

I think that could work. I've just used a small and narrow brush. Getting into the grooves seemed an easier task with a smaller brush.
